Clock Out Threshold for ZenTime

Prev Next

A new setting called Clock Out Next Day Threshold has been added to the Time Clock Properties in Zenople. This setting allows administrators to define a maximum number of hours an employee can remain in a "clocked in" state before the system automatically resets for the next day, preventing employees from arriving the following morning and seeing a clock-out prompt instead of a clock-in prompt when they had forgotten to clock out the previous day.

This setting applies to the ZenTime timeclock only. It does not affect the Zenople web timeclock or the Zenople mobile timeclock.

Functionality

For Administrators, Configuring the Threshold

  • Log in to Zenople and navigate to the required Time Clock setup.
  • Select the Time Clock record you wish to configure.
  • Open the Properties section for that Time Clock.
  • Locate the Clock Out Next Day Threshold field.
  • Enter the number of hours to use as the threshold.
  • The valid range is 0 to 48 hours.
  • The default value is 15 hours.
  • Save your changes. The updated setting will take effect on the next sync to the ZenTime device.

For Employees , What Changes on the ZenTime Device

With this feature enabled (threshold greater than 0):

  • An employee clocks in, for example, at 8:00 AM on Monday.
  • The employee forgets to clock out.
  • The Clock Out Threshold is set to 15 hours, so the threshold time is 11:00 PM on Monday.
  • Once midnight passes and the threshold time has elapsed, the system automatically resets the punch state.
  • When the employee arrives on Tuesday morning, the ZenTime device displays the Clock In button and not the Clock Out button.
  • Monday's clock-out time is left blank on the timesheet (no automatic clock-out is created). This will require a manual correction if needed.
  • However, if the Threshold is set as 20 hours, if the employee now access the system in Tuesday 12:00 AM, they will still get the Clock Out option.

Notes

  • Setting to 0 preserves existing behavior. When the threshold is set to 0, ZenTime continues to use the standard 24-hour day rule, no automatic reset occurs.
  • The threshold reset only applies when the calendar day has changed. If an employee clocks in at 6:00 PM and the threshold is 2 hours, the system will not reset until after midnight, even though 2 hours have elapsed. This is by design to handle overnight shifts correctly.
  • Threshold range is 0 to 48 hours. This accommodates extended shifts and multi-day work scenarios.
  • This property applies to ZenTime only. The Zenople web-based timeclock and mobile timeclock are not affected by this setting.
  • Existing Time Clock records were seeded with a value of 0 at release, meaning no behavior change occurs for existing clients until an administrator explicitly sets the threshold to a non-zero value.
  • The property description in the admin UI notes which timeclock types (ZenTime, web, mobile) the setting applies to, helping administrators make informed decisions.
  • A blank clock-out time on the timesheet from the previous day will require a manual timesheet correction. Notify your payroll team if employees are regularly missing clock-outs.
