# Time Entry Navigation (Beta)

## Introducing Time Entry Navigation

### Summary

The **Time Entry** screen in TMS is now generally available for all users as a beta feature.

### What Changed

- A new navigation “Time Entry” has been introduced in beta release for better user experience and faster processing.
- All users with access to Timesheet navigation now have access to Time Entry through the standard TMS navigation menu.
- The legacy **Timesheet** screen remains accessible during the transition period.

### What Is Time Entry?

Time Entry is the modern replacement for the legacy Timesheet screen. It provides:

- **Faster loading** — large batches open in seconds instead of over a minute
- **Automatic saving** — each cell saves immediately when you move to the next field, eliminating the need to click a Save button
- **Reduced risk of data loss** — since entries are saved individually, you no longer risk losing all unsaved work if your browser closes or you navigate away
- **Smoother filtering** — search and filter results appear instantly with no lag
- **Type-to-search organization selection** — quickly find organizations by typing instead of scrolling a long list
- **Consistent performance** — handles large batches without slowing down

### What You Need to Do

| If you are... | Action needed |
| --- | --- |
| Already using Time Entry (beta) | No action needed — continue using it as before |
| Still using the legacy Timesheet screen | Navigate to **Time Entry** in your TMS menu to start using the new screen |
| An administrator | No configuration changes required — Time Entry is enabled by default |

### Key Differences from the Legacy Timesheet

| Feature | Timesheet (Old) | Time Entry (New) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Loading speed | Slow for large batches | Fast — 7 to 12 seconds |
| Saving | Manual — must click Save | Automatic — saves per cell |
| | |
| Organization search | Long scrollable dropdown | Type-to-search |
| Performance with large batches | Degrades significantly | Remains consistent |

### Legacy Timesheet Status

The legacy Timesheet screen remains available during the transition period. However, we recommend all users move to Time Entry for the improved speed, safety, and user experience. A deprecation timeline for the Timesheet screen will be communicated separately.
