# Introduction and Overview

## **Introduction**

The Automation User Interface (UI) empowers organizations to streamline workflows by creating and managing automation rules. Each rule comprises a **trigger** (an event or condition that initiates the automation) and an **action** (the task executed when the trigger is activated). This manual provides comprehensive guidance on configuring automations, managing pre-configured system-level automations, and creating custom rules. It covers trigger categories, action types, survey configurations, and special scenarios, ensuring users can optimize operational efficiency without missing any critical functionality.

## **Overview of Automations**

An automation rule is defined as the combination of a trigger and an action:

- **Trigger**: The event or condition that prompts the automation, such as a new applicant being added or an assignment shift starting.
- **Action**: The task performed when the trigger is activated, such as sending an email, text message, or survey.

In addition to user-created manual automations, the system provides pre-configured **system-level automations**, which are pre-configured rules for common scenarios. These can be activated, deactivated, or customized to a limited extent, as detailed later.
