# Affinda Package Upgrade

**Overview**

- **What the feature is**  
This release upgrades the Affinda Resume Parser used in Zenople from version 5.10.0 to version 5.22.0 and transitions resume extraction from the legacy Resume parser to the Resume (Next-Gen) parser.
- **Previous issues:**  
The legacy parser was producing unreliable and inconsistent results across critical resume fields, including missing education and work history, unrecognized job titles, incorrect name parsing, inaccurate location details, and resumes returning as null. Migrating to the supported Next-Gen parser resolves these systemic issues and ensures continued, stable resume parsing.

**Functionality**

- **Where it appears in Zenople, Which Zenople modules it applies to**  
This update applies to all Zenople modules and workflows where resume parsing is used, including applicant intake and resume processing across the ATS and related portals.
- **New UI elements or settings**  
No new user interface elements or configuration settings are introduced with this upgrade.
- **What happens when users interact with the feature**  
Users continue to upload and parse resumes as usual. The system now processes resumes using the Affinda Resume (Next-Gen) parser, with updated data mapping to support improved parsing reliability while preserving existing workflows.

- **Related updates**
  - Complete rebuild of the resume data model and mapping logic to align with the Next-Gen parser’s new JSON structure.
  - Updated handling of degree type values to align legacy education records with the Next-Gen parser’s singular, title-cased outputs (for example, “Bachelor” instead of “bachelors”).
- **Limitations**
  - Preferred Name and SSN are not extracted by the Next-Gen parser, even when present on resumes.
  - When a resume does not include a ZIP code, apartment numbers may occasionally be parsed into the ZIP code field.
  - Multi-line address formats may not consistently extract all location fields compared to single-line address formats.
  - In some cases, resumes formatted with information separated across multiple individual lines may fail during the resume parsing process.

  - Continued dependency on Affinda’s Resume (Next-Gen) parsing capabilities and supported data structures.
