# Add Break Hours and Forecasted Hours to Shift (1)

This feature introduces a new *Break Hours* field within shift configuration and enhances the Workboard by displaying both *Shift Break Hours* and *Forecasted Hours*. It ensures users can define unpaid break durations within shifts and allows payroll and operational teams to quickly understand expected labor hours without needing manual calculations.

**Why it matters**

- Provides clear visibility into unpaid break allocations.
- Improves accuracy in forecasting labor costs.
- Improves auditing activities when reviewing actual work hours vs expected work hours in the Workboard.
- Ensures consistency across scheduling, job management, and assignment workflows.

**Key client benefits**

- Enhanced efficiency in scheduling and payroll review.
- More precise labor hour forecasting.
- Reduced errors caused by manual calculations.
- Improved transparency of shift structures across modules.

### Functionality

#### Where the Feature Appears in Zenople

The new *Break Hours* field has been added to shift forms across multiple Zenople applications, including:

- **JSM → Schedule → Edit Schedule → Add Shift Form**
- **TJM → Edit Job → Shift**
- **NCO/CMS → Job Position → Shift**
- **AMS → Assignment Edit → Shift**
- **CMS → Schedule Job → Add Schedule → Add Shift Form**
- **JSM (+) Add Schedule Job Path**
- **Contact Portal → Add Job**

#### Break Hours – New Field

- A new field labeled **"Break Hours"** is available on the shift.
- Located **after the Dispatch Time field**.
- Accepts **numerical decimal values** (e.g., 0.5, 1.0).
- **Not mandatory**; existing shifts function without requiring this value.
- Includes system validation to ensure:
  - Break Hours **cannot exceed the difference** between shift start time and end time.

#### Workboard Enhancements

Two new columns are added to Workboard transactions:

1. **Shift Break Hours**
  - Directly displays the value entered in the *Break Hours* field on the shift.
2. **Forecasted Hours**
  - Automatically calculated as:
    - **(Shift End Time – Shift Start Time) – Shift Break Hours** value
  - Supports **overnight shifts**.
  - Displays **blank** if Shift Break Hours value is missing or invalid.
  - In the case of Job Schedules, values are based on **Job Schedule Start and End Time**, which may result in a negative value where break hours exceed the schedule duration.
  - Shift Break Hours are **not calculated within the Workboard**; only displayed.

### Additional Notes

- This enhancement does **not** impact page loading, performance, or existing workflows.
- Actual Break Out and Break In punches are not impacted and calculate actual time worked as expected.
- Existing shifts without defined Break Hours continue operating normally.
- Forecasted Hours may appear as **negative**in rare cases where:
  - Job Schedule time range is shorter than the defined Break Hours.
- No additional configuration is required; the fields appear automatically in the listed modules.
- Forecast calculations fully support shifts crossing midnight.
